LeadershipIssues: Mea Culpa…

I wrote a post a few weeks ago for LeadershipIssues, weighing-in my opinion about the hard choice between talent and commitment, in which I made reference to a specific situation that was in-process and had not been resolved…

That was a mistake.

The fact that I did not expect anyone involved in that process to read the post is really inconsequential…

Apparently,  someone did…

It is not my intent to use this site as a bully-pulpit, which is also beside the point, and I do hope you guys won’t judge me too harshly…

The choice to publish the article (or at least the timing) was a poor one and for that I offer my apologies to the involved parties.  Don’t bother looking for the offending material… I removed it from the site.

Making a judgment error like this really sucks… Especially when it has potential to sow discord in God’s Kingdom.  Blog-writing tends to be a reflection of whatever is on the blogger’s mind and the issue was on my mind at the time.  I do want to defend the purpose of the post, which was to generate discussion of an issue that I have observed as common among church leaders who work with creatives.  I received several private emails (from leaders with a tad more discretion) that confirmed the validity of my observation…

Nonetheless, I learned the hard lesson that (1) I am as responsible for my content as I am for my intent and (2) more people read the posts than I previously thought.
