We live in a world full of high-speed internet and smart cars and artistic expression.  We tweet, update our status and choose which gourmet coffee house to frequent based on how fast their wi-fi is.  We talk about making sacrifices because the economy is bad, but most of us aren’t sleeping under a bus or eating garbage.  It’s easy to forget that many people in the world will sleep tonight in a cardboard box with nothing to eat.

The Book of Acts tells us that the early followers of Jesus had “everything in common” (Acts 2:44).  They shared their homes, wealth and talents with the community of believers.

These principles still apply!  If you’ve ever been on a mission trip to help truly impoverished people, you know what we’re talking about.  And for artists, that means that we can use the gifts that God has given us to strengthen ministries that serve the poor.

I like to highlight this idea of “giving back” with articles about the biblical principles surrounding giving, interviews with missionaries and artists that are using their gifts in service to people who cannot help themselves.

In my own search for opportunities to GiveBack, I’ve done graphics and brand development for Arise Ministries (an orphanage and community development program in the Philippines) and its parent organization, LifeChange International.

Look for features and articles on artists who give back and resources for finding ministries that need help.  If you know an artist who has done a significant service for a mission organization or individual missionary, contact us and tell us all about it.

Missionary Slide Shows…
We’re artists: photographers, graphic artists, media designers, filmmakers, songwriters, indie bands… The visual and emotional flash that these missionaries need to engage their audiences, hold their attention and get help for Joe and other kids like him… it’s just a “doodle” for us… (read more)

Initiating Contact…
There are practical and spiritual reasons that artists should initiate contact with missionaries… (read more)

Interview with John Prichard and Jack Fairweather…
I hooked up with student filmmaker, John Prichard, and missionary, Jack Fairweather, to talk about Jack’s work with street kids in the Philippines and the short film that John is making about the mission there.

Arise! Mission Video… by John Prichard
John Prichard was kind enough to provide us with this pre-release video of his short film featuring missionary Jack Fairweather.
